The Uruguayan Chamber of Free Trade Zones is proud to announce that it is now an active member of the World Free Zones Organization, with voting rights.

The World Free Zones Organization (“World FZO”) is a non-profit entity based in Geneva (Switzerland) and operating out of Dubai.  Its purpose is to represent the interests of free trade zones around the world, provide knowledge on free trade zones, establish bonds to cooperate, discuss, and introduce those countries that may benefit from the free trade zone model, and to spread the advantages this system brings to economy and trade, social development, and international investment.

The WFZO was created to consolidate the leading role of free trade zones in international trade and also to facilitate services such as technical education, reports, studies and statistics in the field.  The objectives of the new organization include the promotion of foreign trade, generation of employment and industrialization of developing countries, as well as the promotion of security in the international logistics chain, for which plans will be developed together with the WTO, ILO, WCO, OECD, and UNIDO (the branch of the UN for industrialization).
